University of Florida Biomedical Science Building

Summary

This 160,000 sq. ft. facility includes research and administrative facilities for the Biomedical Engineering, Sciences and Animal Resources departments. The primary function of this facility is to provide general BSL 2 research space including in-house small animal holding and cage wash services. The project includes five main 100% outside air handling supply units, dedicated general exhaust, dedicated fume exhaust and dedicated animal holding exhaust systems. The automatic lighting control system serves all public spaces. Project included a new 3 MW central emergency power generator system that was designed to serve this new facility and 3 other facilities totaling more than 750,000 sq. ft. Moses Engineering served as the 3rd party commissioning agent on this project and provided the overall direction of the commissioning process during the design, construction, and post construction phase. A final report was developed to document the Cx process and results. A systems manual was developed to assist the facility management staff with regard to maintenance and re-testing efforts. Scope included 2 years of post-warranty quarterly inspection services Moses Engineering commissioned the following systems: • HVAC systems (including all supply, exhaust, chilled water, steam and control elements) • Laboratory BSL2 laboratories • Vivarium facility which included holding rooms for small and large animals. • Electrical power systems (emergency and normal power) which included the new 3MW power generating plant, • Lighting and Lighting Controls • Energy metering package • Building Envelope
