Austin Cary Memorial Forest Learning Center

Summary

This new conference center is located on the site of a former conference center, which was destroyed by fire. Ample daylighting and a series of wooden decks allow users to enjoy the natural beauty of the site, adjacent to Lake Mize. The use of the facility will be varied and will include such functions as teaching, conference and ceremonial space. Spaces include a gallery which opens onto the covered deck, a library, conference room, classroom, and a kitchen. The new facility is designed to be fully accessible and easy to maintain. Total project area is 4,717 square feet. New high efficiency split system HVAC units provide air conditioning and ventilation. A new electrical service was provided for the building. High efficiency lighting, wireless data and multimedia audiovisual systems were designed and installed. Plumbing design employed efficient fixtures to meet Florida Water Star Standards. Fire Protection is provided by an on-site storage system complying with NFPA 1142 – Standard on Water Supplies for Suburban and Rural Fire Fighting.
