Carnival Cruise Lines Science & Technology

Summary

The Carnival Cruise Lines Science & Technology Building is a two story, 25,000 SF facility designed to incorporate all of the undergraduate and research activities in the hard sciences at St Thomas University. While small in size, the building provides a wide variety of teaching spaces: Classrooms, Discovery Laboratory, Physics Laboratory, General Chemistry Laboratory, Organic Chemistry Laboratory, General Biology Laboratory, Advanced Biology Laboratory, Environmental Research Laboratory, General Research Laboratories, Tissue Culture, Molecular Biology and an Environmental Cold Room. Support spaces include: offices, conference rooms, chemical storage, prep rooms and an atrium entry. Moses Engineering was the prime professional for the project and directed all consultants, including architectural. Moses designed an air-cooled chiller plant, condensing boilers, central fume exhaust, laboratory variable air volume system, plumbing utilities, power, lighting, emergency generator, fire sprinklers and a complete IT and A/V system. Moses served as Commissioning Authority for the project ensuring the Owners Project Requirements had been achieved. The commissioning scope included air handling systems, hot water boiler systems, chilled water production equipment, laboratory control systems, lighting control systems and overall building automation system functions. In addition, Moses provided a comprehensive final report documenting the Cx results and findings.
